Shield
Display
Depth
and AirPressure automatic analogic built in
display for Ocean Reef Neptune II mask
To check important data (depth and air pressure) while diving, the
divers must look at their wrist or console display instruments. With SHIELD
DISPLAY this information is brought directly to the mask face shield improving
diver comfort and efficiency. The SHIELD DISPLAY is an accessory available
for installing on any Ocean Reef Neptune II NIRA, Ocean Reef Neptune II or previous models of
Ocean REEF full face or integrated diving masks. It consists of the following:
2 LED displays, inside the face shield (depth displayed on the right and
tank pressure displayed on the left), connect to the mask through the
regulator/octopus port. Supplied with a quick connector the main electronic
unit mounts easily to the tank strap of the BC. The high pressure hose
from the regulator first stage plugs into the main unit, which also has
a depth sensor. The newly designed "surface air valve" allows
the connection of the "shield Display" through this valve but
still allows the diver to breathe surface air through the "surface
air valve", thereby conserving compressed gas. This valve is now
referred to as the "electronic connection surface air valve".
HOW IT WORKS The SHIELD DISPLAY turns on automatically when submerged
in water. The main unit connects to the BC Tank Strap. Brightness may
be adjusted by a switch located on the "Electronic Connection Surface
Air Valve". To accommodate daytime use, nighttime use, low light
use of divers personal preference. The LED may be turned off and on during
the dive by pressing the button on the quick connection. It will turn
on automatically if the tank pressure is low and / or the depth is 40
meters / 120 feet or greater.
AIR PRESSURE The air pressure display has two sets of LED. No digital
information is provided. . When the tank is full all displays show green.
As pressure decreases the LED at the top turn off. As the air pressure
approaches 60 bar/900 psi the tights become red and when the air pressure
reaches 50 bar/700 psi the red LED flashes.
DEPTH At the beginning of the dive only the reference bar turns
on to indicate the unit is working and displays a depth of 50 meters /
164 feet . As the diver descends past 5 meters/ 15 feet the LED lights
as the diver descends past the corresponding depth. At 45 meters/ 148
feet the LED turns red. At 50 meters/ 164 feet the LED red light flashes.
It is important to remember that the SHIELD DISPLAY is a support system
and it is NOT an alternative to the conventional pressure and depth gauges,
or computers. The SHIELD DISPLAY is providing at a glance information
allowing the diver to quickly evaluate the general conditions (air supply
and depth) of his dive.

About
underwater communication
Talking underwater requires some special attention
- Talk slowly with clear pronunciation
- Talk briefly
- While you talk, exhale slowly
- Direct the exhaust bubbles from the regulator on the opposite side
of the communicator using the directional knob on the exhalation valve
of the Ocean Reef Neptune II.
Communication
is sensitive to the topography of the diving environment. There could
be unwanted sound reflections or reverberations (known as the Larsen effect)
particularly in swimming pools. Thermo dines and bubbles exhausting from
the regulator, are both sources for interferen- ce. The micro air-bubbles
generated during exhaust that deposit on the GSM DAT antenna can in fact
cause a drastic reduction in quality and power of the ultrasonic signal.
Other obstacles such as rocks or parts of shipwrecks also reduce the quality
of the signal, generating a shadow zone where it could be difficult, if
not impossible to communicate.
